{"id":8530,"date":"2025-05-06T16:47:21","date_gmt":"2025-05-06T13:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gap.lt\/projektai\/kieno-pareiga\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T18:36:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T15:36:19","slug":"kieno-pareiga","status":"publish","type":"projektai","link":"https:\/\/gap.lt\/en\/projects\/kieno-pareiga\/","title":{"rendered":"Unpaid care work: whose responsibility?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Implementation period:<\/strong> January 2025 &#8211; December 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Project aims<\/strong> to raise awareness among the Lithuanian public about the importance of unpaid care work for the sustainability of society, the unequal burden of this responsibility on women and men, and the associated negative consequences for women\u2019s economic independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research in Lithuania shows that current policies on family care do not promote gender equality. Instead, they often add to women&#8217;s burdens by promoting the traditional division of labour. Only one in two dads takes paternity leave, and women bear the bulk of responsibility for caring for children and the elderly or disabled. The lack of quality services and poor infrastructure, especially in remote areas and for single parents, poses major challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to EIGE, only 1% of men in Lithuania care for children or the elderly on a daily basis, compared to 17% more women who do this daily care. This not only causes problems in reconciling family and work, but also has a negative impact on women&#8217;s quality of life, health and social relationships.
