Implementation period: June 2026 – May 2027
The goal of the project is to improve women’s safety from gender-based violence by strengthening the recognition of femicide—as an extreme form of gender-based violence—within Lithuania’s legal system and public policy, through evidence-based advocacy and public awareness campaigns.
Objectives:
• Conduct an analysis of the legal systems and practices of foreign countries and Lithuania, and, based on this analysis, advocate for the establishment of the concept of femicide in Lithuanian legislation.
• Strengthen the preparedness and capacity of civil society, nongovernmental organizations, and other stakeholder groups to seek more effective legal protection against gender-based violence and femicide.
• To raise public awareness—particularly among women at risk of femicide—about the causes of femicide, its links to gender inequality, its consequences, and the need for legal and policy changes.
The project involves an analysis of practices in other countries and the legal situation in Lithuania, the development of recommendations, mobilizing public support, participation in decision-making processes, social media and media campaigns, educational seminars, and public awareness events.
The project will contribute to strengthening the prevention of gender-based violence in Lithuania, raising the visibility of femicide, increasing public awareness, and fostering informed discussion about necessary changes in legislation and public policy.
Funding amount: 60,000 EUR
The project is being implemented by the Center for Equality advancement in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Innovation.
